Currently I play in the Automotive Paint Sector and own a company called Brushless Colors. I am in the process of selling off the company, not the name, and am merging over into the web design sector for a career.
Currently I have Blue Ice Studio as a business name but just don’t seem like I get much enthusiasm over the name when I say it to others.
Which do you like better for a Web Design Company name?
- Blue Ice Studio
- Brushless Colors
Some are just telling me to keep my original name cause it fits the web design part as well. Maybe you have another name that you think might work better….mention it if you would.
The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name’s originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.
The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.
Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route…
I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.
I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what’s out there.
Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I’d try them out first.
Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.
There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I’m not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You’ll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
I am starting a new business and starting a web page but I need a web designer, I am just starting out and looking for a reasonable price any students looking to enhance their portfolio, please contact me.
I would suggest posting on craiglist (and explain why you’re offering below market salary) or http://www.dice.com is where tech. jobs are usually listed.
I live in the Tri Cities, Washington area and I am looking for someone in my area who wants to partner with me on creating a unique fantasy sports website. I have the ideas and the capital but not the working knowledge of how to accomplish it. It would be a subscriber site and my projected target is a yearly fee of $49.95. I think it would take about a year to get up and running and I think shooting for 10,0000 subscribers is not unreasonable.
I want a partner, someone who is invested in the success of this project. I would be willing to subsidize future earnings with a weekly or monthly salary if needed, but that would lower your ownership percentage. No capital would be required by you, only your working knowledge of creating the software and databases we would need, creating and maintaining the website and working through all logisitical issues.
Please respond to this question with your email address and I will get back to you. I prefer someone local.
Response to Answer #1 – I did not know this was not permitted. I read the TOS and didn’t see where it wasn’t permitted. Could you direct me to the language in the Terms of Service that prohibits this type of question?
Response to Answer #2 – Please keep your job at McDonalds. I am looking for someone who wants to partner with me and my ideas of how to make a truly great and sought after website. My working capital of $50,000 for R&D and everything we’ll need(like servers, computer software, marketing, etc) is only a fraction of what I am bringing to this offer – I am also bringing the ideas and knowledge of what will work in this industry, similar to what my future partner will bring, which is their ideas and knowledge of what works with software programming and web site development.
If offering up to a 50% stake in this company while providing the working capital to realize it is unfair as you see it, then please move on. I could offer a salary, but I prefer a partner
Perhaps you didn’t see it, but finding employees or employment or project partnering is prohibited on these boards. They are for interchange of free programming and design help from people with similar skills. Sorry.
ok so im researching about computers and i was wondering what type of computer will be good for a web programmer that spends most of the time working at home, and need a machine capable of running advanced software And is powerful enough. and have a budget of 3000 dollars with monitor mouse and keyboard included a little help… and were to find its specs…. thanks.
It would be better to define what software you’re planning on running.
Unless you’re running something graphics intensive (and depending on the kind of programming you’re going to be doing, I really doubt it), you can easily get a quad core CPU like I have for $500.
That should be perfectly fine for most anything you do.
What is the best internet browser for web designing? And what is a feature that helps with web designing?
I’M using Windows Vista.
For initial development, my shop uses Firefox. Not only is FF among the most compliant with W3C standards, but with the (feature!) Firebug plug-in, it makes development MUCH faster. The majority of what works, e.g., HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, in FF works as-is for Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc i.e., the non-IE, graphical browsers. Once everything is beeyoo-tee-full in FF, we move to making it work for IE 6, 7, and 8 on XP, Vista, and 7…yes the same version of IE works differently stupidly on various versions of (expletive deleted) Windows. However, using conditional comment, the odd bits to cure IE silliness can be accomplished. For instance, we usually end up with several CSS files by following the model:
- file1.css: get it perfect in FF and the other non-IE browsers
- file2.css: minimum differences to fix IE8 and anything older that works the same
- file3.css: minimum differences to fix IE7 and anything older that works the same
- file4.css: minimum differences to fix IE6
Since IE5 is used by less than .5% of users these days, we ignore it. As browsers drop off the user radar, we’ll quit supporting them as well. Currently, tho’ I hate the fact, IE is used by WAY big bunches of people. Since, my shop has to make our clients look good (even to the poor, benighted folks who use Windoze and IE and the artsy, Mac-sy Safari types), we support lots of browsers.
Same arguments hold for scripting, but we usually perform minimal browser "sniffing" in the context of the script code.
Im familiar with the open source project osCommerce. Is there anything else similar to this? People who have used programs like these are encouraged to respond. What’s a good host for a secure site? (SSL 3.0)
It appears that the question period has expired. If an answer has been given that meets your needs, please pick a ‘best answer’. Regards.
Do you web designers use any registry cleaners or utilities? Which ones?
Back in the days that I was a Windoze user, I had Registry Mechanic to manage and maintain the integrity of my registry. It gets fair overall reviews and worked pretty well (3 out 5 by my standards). My special complaints were that:
- its creation of restore points was unreliable
- letting it run at startup WAY slowed the process of waking Windoze
On the bright side, it never broke anything that I could detect.
I’ve been a pure Linux user for the last few years (and now will be forever); hence, I can’t speak to the current quality of the RM product. PCTools has a web ad for the product at:
http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/
CNet reviews it at (lots of user reviews included…some, not so flattering, but hey, for $30, whaddya expect?):
http://download.cnet.com/Registry-Mechanic/3000-2094_4-10190447.html#userreview
On a tangential note, as a Linux user, I (hallelujah!) no longer need to worry about registry maintenance.
This question is for a E-Commerce Class.
That can be anything its not like 8 its like thousands. I can’t give you exact answers but will give you 2 opinions and the rest I am sorry you are going to have to use your own brain.
1.Web Browsers (that would some it up)
2.Computer hardware.
I need a web designer in the Orlando area to design a website for a new production company. I would like an extremely creative person with a portfolio and approximate costs for services. Thanks!
I live and work in Ocala and currently I am creating a website for an Orlando company:
http://www.downtownexecutiveservices.com
(alot of people don’t seem to like this dark layout, but the client was very specific)
You should check out my website for examples of my finished work.
http://www.samwilson3d.com
Very difficult to say what approximate cost would be but I suppose in general, an 8 to 10 page informational website would cost around $575
this includes custom design of visual assets as well as basic search engine optimization.
Also important is that this includes creation of a content management system which will allow you to update your website with no HTML through a simple to use backend
You should be prepared to supply whichever web designer you chose some well-written info about what you want to say. The designer will probably need to rewrite and enhance this info for search engine optimization purposes but remember that the web designer only knows what you tell him about your business.
I’m in Interactive Media, and I am going to learn Maya. I looked up the software online and it’s very expensive over $500.00.
I am going specifically for web design because I like designing and making pages. I need to know this because I want to know which software I will need to buy for homework and a future career. My school has a deal with Adobe for students. $237 for Flash, Dream Weaver, Fireworks and Contribute.
The Adobe Web Suite for students is an ideal package for you to purchase. The application bundled with it are used a great deal in the web design industry.
Other products are also available, but most don’t have the market share as the Adobe suite.
Maya is not used for web design, but is used to make 3D style graphics. Though 3D graphics are popular, they make up very little of the total number of images used in general web design.
