Who understands a little about web design? I need to figure out how the Cartesian Coordinate system is used in the construction and design of a web page.
In the browser you only see a quarter of the coordinate system; it has the origin in the top left corner; X is the distance in pixels from the left side and Y is the distance from the top (just like in Photoshop, for examplt).
Most of the times, though, you won’t be using this system when designing pages. The position of the elements are usually not set relatively to the origin (position:absolute; in CSS) but they just flow with the other content (position:static; in CSS. no predefined distance is necessary), just like it happens in Microsoft Word.
You should try playing with HTML a little and you will understand.
I am really interested in web design and have made several basic pages on my own. I want to reach the next level and try to get closer to becoming a professional web developer. Are there any options other than enrolling in full-time classes? I wouldn’t mind taking online classes if any good ones are available.
I highly recommend this book for learning how to build websites.
http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-HTML-CSS-XHTML/dp/059610197X
It teaches you the right way to build websites (using HTML and CSS), but also does not bore you. It also has a sense of humor and entertainment value, and purposeful repetition to help you learn.
I think a normal person can read this in one weekend, and that’s just about the best way to learn how to build websites.
Im brainstorming some names for my web solutions company that deals with Social media and SEO for businesses.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Many thanks

It needs to be catchy and easy to remember. Ideally it contains a keyword you are optimizing for.
Good luck,

i am working at a software company, and have about 3-4 hours free each working day. I love designing web pages just for fun, and I want it to put in practice, i.e publishing to internet n all.
i know, i can make templates, and publish them for use to others. Or i can just create pages on demand.
but, i would like to know, what other things than these I can do?

I’ve just started my GCSE’s and planning on heading into the world of web-design, so which universities would be the best to get into? Also which A Level’s should I be taking? Anywhere in the world will be fine and I dont mind on the amount of years it takes, but I would like the best possible degree and for my CV to be the one any future employer will pick. Thanks.
There are a number of universities which conduct courses related to Web- Design, but if you are deeply interested in it then you have to enroll in any of Bachelor or Master degree program in computer science. This will help in enhancing your skills in this concerned area. The degree like B-Tech, BCA or MCA can prove useful.
Hi
I have web designing and development business in India. and also registered trade name in Australia . I would like to know how can I promote this in Australia ?
Online advertising. :] And talk to you people you know who might be interested, or in a position where they could help you.
What e-commerce or shopping cart solution is used by professional web developers in the industry? Do you use open source like Zencart or a CMS shopping cart like VirtueMart and UberCart or do you create online shops from scratch? I want to be a web developer and wondering what is used by professionals and what i should learn.
It really depends on what you are trying to do with it. Smaller stores (and there’s a ton of them) will be just fine using open source solutions like Zen-Cart or Joomla / VirtueMart. They are customizable and powerful enough for majority of smaller retailers.
Larger guys build systems from scratch because they need integration with returns tracking, phone order systems, etc.
I’d say a good approach is to learn an open source system and then look under the hood to understand how it’s built, etc. so you can gain enough knowledge to start building solutions from scratch if needed.
Good luck
