Suggestion for free WSYWIG web page designer?

Posted by admin on February 21st, 2010 and filed under web page designers | 5 Comments »

I would like some suggestions for good, free webpage designers. I know Word has the option (but is limited and messy). Not interested in suggestions for site-builder tools like geocities, it has to be an independent tool. This is for charity which is why it has to be free. Thanks.

There are two I would recommend checking out, both free software:

KompoZer – this is Nvu’s successor. (GPL, MPL)
http://kompozer.net/

Amaya – very strict debugging routines for finding errors in web pages. (W3C License)
http://www.w3.org/Amaya/

Please, do not use a word processor to create web pages, their HTML code is always bloated and difficult to maintain.

Nvu is a free (and open source) WSYWIG web page editor that is an independent tool you download to your computer.
You can get it here http://www.nvu.com/index.php/

It’s WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get).

One good standalone tool is NVU. A search will take you right to the page … don’t remember if it’s .com or .org. Still, a bit of html coding helps, but this program is the one I use, and it works real well. It lets you use tables, insert images, set backgrounds, fonts, colors, etc. The more familiar you are with it, the better your results will be.

It’s not as easy as Microsoft Publisher or Word to get the exact results you want, but it will work on more browsers. You might also take a look at openoffice.org as well.

I’ve been using Evrsoft First Page 2000 for a few years now. It has both an html and wysiwyg feature as well as a scripting library, .asp ssi, .php and full tutorial systems with up to date html reference.. http://www.evrsoft.com.. It worked so well for me that I ended up buying the newest version

from http://www.chami.com you can get HTML-Kit which Ihave used now for years. It’s not quite WYSIWYG but does have a built in browser for quick checks. It also has a code checker and with add-ins can manage Javascript, PHP and plenty of other stuff. It has a small memory footprint and loads up far faster than Dreamweaver. It’s my HTML tool of choice for the dozen sites I’ve put together.
