How do web designers for sites like Youtube, Facebook, and Google design their web pages?

Posted by admin on October 25th, 2010 and filed under web designers | 2 Comments »

What I mean is how do web designers for web sites like Youtube and Facebook and Google (etc)make their logos and backgrounds and what software do they use to do that?

Complex sites like these will have their own custom build Content Management System (CMS). These let you run things like search engines, discussion forums, Facebook Apps, e-commerce, etc.

There’s some good CMS systems out there that are open-source (i.e. free). Drupal has some free modules that mirror the functionality of Facebook (not everything, but a decent amount).

You can read more on Drupal on http://www.1websitedesigner.com/website-design-drupal-cms and on the Facebook module used by Drupal on http://drupal.org/project/fb.

As the other responder said, the actual logos and graphic designers will most likely be created in Photoshop.

How can i be come a professional web designer?

Posted by admin on October 20th, 2010 and filed under web designer | 5 Comments »

I don’t have any knowledge about web design and i’ll really
want to be a professional web designer. Where will i start
from and links to help me. Please

This is actually a fairly broad question. Can you narrow down a bit what you want to do? Are you interested in the look and layout of web sites? Are you interested in the various applications that enhance various sites around the web? Are you interested in creating/maintaining the databases that store all the information that various sites collect and use?

Given that you are apparently starting with nothing, I would suggest you start by learning HTML and FTP. These are very basic nuts and bolts required for web design – and really all that is needed in many cases. Throw in CSS here because it allows you greater control over the design and look of pages with very little added learning.

Once you get those basics down, you may want to learn a scripting language like JavaScript, ASP, or PHP. These allow you to start creating interactive pages that actually do things. But you’ll also want to learn about database management so you can save and reuse information.

If you want to go further, they you’ll need to learn Flash or some other similar technology.

And there are nearly endless different combinations and permutations of what you can learn and how you might apply it.

What business structure is best if i want to start a web design business and market prodcuts online?

Posted by admin on October 12th, 2010 and filed under web design | 1 Comment »

I want to start a web design business and marketing products online. I would be selling digital products internationally and designing web sites for companies and individuals. What kind of business structure (sole proprietorship, incorporated…etc) would suit both business? Which one would protect me the most?

If you are looking for protetction you will need to set up a corporation. This is basically a seperate legal entity which files its own taxes and can sue or be sued by other individuals or corporations.

A corporation does add cost: initial set up, you will need a corporate address (usually not a PO box), annual record keeping, reporting, and taxes. When done correctly it will protect your personal assets from being taken in the event the corporation is sucessfully sued.

A word of caution in setting the corporation up. There are process and procedures you need to adhere to to ensure your assets are properly protected behind the corporation.
These include (but are not limited to) personal guarantees, maintaining your minutes book, bylaws, proper shareholder designations, etc. If you do not set the corporation up properly you could be inadequately protected.

The safest way (but most expensive) is to see a lawyer to set something up but you can use your own discretion.
